Gato? Oh...cat!

So who's the furry gato behind the scene?  That is my crazy kitty Zoë.  I adopted her from the local Humane Society a little less than a year ago.  I had recently put my childhood cat of 17 years to sleep, and I was feeling the need for feline companionship.  My man D and I wondered the rows and rows of animals that needed homes.  It was a good thing I brought him along- otherwise I would be the cat-lady at age 24 because I would have taken them all home.  I ended up with the itty bitty tiger striped kitten who was super sleepy and shy in her cage.  Was I wrong about her personality! She has grown up into the most playful, attention-seeking cat.  She knows just how to flop on the ground and lay on her back to get a belly rub.  Zoë has wrapped me (and D) around her little paws.  I included some pictures from when she was still a youngin' and a video I took last night of the crazy girl attacking a tv.  Enjoy :)

The day I brought her home- she was the size of an Xbox controller!

Dejando unas libras

One of my main goals for 2012 is to get healthy.  I'm not sickly or anything, but I definitely was starting to notice a tightening of the waistbands.  I want to dejar unas libras (lose some pounds) and keep it off.  In order to do this, I researched quite a few diets and lifestyle options ranging from cleanses to Atkins.  I ended up choosing WeightWatchers Online.  The biggest reason I chose WW was the success I have seen from so many people close to me.

So far, I LOVE using WW and their Points+ system.  It really has taught me about serving sizes and portion control.  Before- I could eat 5 3 cookies in a sitting and think nothing of it.  Now- I eat one.  I have learned to eat what I like, but in moderation.  Also, I have started to enjoy fruits and veggies again.  Growing up I loved to eat a salad and munch on fruit, but through college and my first couple years in the real world those healthy snacks waned into nonexistence in my fridge.  Cost and time were the biggest factors into why - being a poor college student and a first years teacher can take its toll on you!  Another reason I have enjoyed WW? It is reminding me that I really enjoy spending time in the kitchen.  I cook more, experiment with new recipes and make my poor boyfriend, D, taste-test them. (Although I think there have been more successes than failures so far!)

I plan to update more as I go through my journey with WeightWatchers to both help hold myself accountable with my goal to get healthy, but also to hopefully inspire others to do the same!  I also am going to share some of my favorite new recipes, exercise ideas and general life updates.  Feel free to leave words of encouragement or ideas for recipes to try!

¡Bienvenidos!

Here's another attempt at doing a better job of documenting my life in blog form.  I have two unofficial resolutions for 2012 - bring my crafty, culinary self back to life and also bring my precollege weight back to reality.  Why unofficial? I am really good at tossing resolutions out the window - so I figured it would be better to create goals instead of resolutions.  We shall see how it works.  Almost two months into 2012 and so far, so good.  I hope to use this blog as a way to share crafts, recipes, exercises and everything that is contributing to goal success.  ¡Disfruta! (Enjoy!)
